Dordover has always seen itself as the college that protects Balaia from the machinations of Xetesk. In centuries gone by, this may have been true but it is no longer so, given the increasing power of both Julatsa and Lystern and the lessening threat from Xetesk.

Overseen by an ageing High Elder, much of the real power of Dordover rests with Tower Lord, Vuldaroq, and High Secretary, Berian. Both are aggressive politicians. Indeed, with a wide catchment of workers within the city and farmers without, there is no doubt they could pose a serious threat if they had the will. The mage strength mentioned is a total. Less than half reside in the college.

Dordover is a prosperous city which has long maximised trade and is a centre for excellence in weaponry and armour. The college, walled and guarded, is closed to non mages at nightfall. Not believing in the mana shaping attributes of towers, the college's one 'tower' is actually a large mansion style building on three floors only. Proud of being the college that gave birth to Septern, Dordover considers itself a centre for research on all fronts and has by far the most extensive library. The colour of mana for a Dordovan is orange.

The size of the college guard is an anomaly. Dordover cannot afford to sustain so many soldiers in peace time and to a large extent, they are 'part-time', drawn from the populace and the farming community on a conscription basis. This ancient right keeps the relations between city and college frosty.
