Gyernath is Balaia's second sea port and is located on the southern coast of Balaia. It is a beautiful and wealthy port city, benefiting from a predominantly warm climate despite its exposed position. The port is built up a gentle slope and the head of the famous Drovers' Way, the main road to the docks, looks down across the entire city.

Unlike most Balaian towns, Gyernath has an architecture council affiliated to the city council and it is their job to see that new buildings are in keeping with the prevailing style. For instance, warehousing is kept at low level and to the east so as not to obscure views of the sea from residential areas.

Gyernath attracts port trade from Blackthorne and Gresse principally, but also Erskan, Denebre and Xetesk, wishing to export to Calaius without paying the warehouse tolls exacted on those storing and moving goods through Korina.

While not as large as Korina, Gyernath is beginning to win back some of the elven trade by selling itself as a more refined place to do business. The gentile nature of the port, as evinced by Scalier, its current and hugely popular mayor, gives credence to that claim.
