Arlen Southern Port The southern port of Arlen is set in stunning landscape half a day's sail up river from the head of Arlen bay and controls much of the onward river bound traffic into the heart of Balaia. Owned by the Arlen family, the port town is run on a rigid supply and demand basis designed to earn the key merchant and shipping families great wealth and, to a large extent, the cartel works. Arlen is a favourite port with some of the larger elven trading houses from Calaius who enjoy the privileges and treatment they receive; but more particularly the high prices they can command in goods such as fine cloth. The incumbent Earl Arlen has overseen a demise in the fortunes of the town by making the mistake of overstretching himself beyond the town's borders. It left him open to Blackthorne and the Baron needed no second invitation. Blackthorne has now effectively annexed the town and now commands every land based trail into the port. His levies have at times been severe. |
