Raven Mage Born on the southern continent, Calaius, Ilkar went to train in the College of Julatsa like so many elves before him. The destiny laid out for him by his family was to return after ten years training to take up a mage position with the secretive Al-Arynaar - the Keepers of the Earth. His father and brother had both become Al-Arynaar warriors and Ilkar was expected to follow them into the calling. But he had never wanted this destiny and so, once free of his family, village and continent, he determined to stay on Balaia to take his mage training to the heights he believed he could reach and so be able to choose his own path. In twenty years there, Ilkar proved a brilliant mage and was marked for a rapid rise to Master status but was never really interested in the politics or required research. He wanted to use his magic, not study it. With the very thought of being a village mage boring him, he was attracted by the danger and earnings of a mercenary mage. Disappointed but not altogether surprised, the Julatsan elders let him go with their blessing, only to see his star soon rise with The Raven. Though only rarely visiting his college, Ilkar retains a fierce loyalty to it and to the ethics it upholds. He believes in the balance the four Colleges have established and will not willingly see that balance risked. |
