The Unknown Warrior never knew his parents. Bred for strength, he was trained for, stamina, endurance, weapon skill and a heightened pain threshold. His soul was promised to the Protector calling, the formidable masked warriors that are the core of Xetesk's armed defence. His true name was Sol.

At age thirteen, he ran away, believing he could escape by disappearing into another life. As he discovers later, there is no escape. Xetesk didn't search for him. They didn't have to.

Running to Korina, he found work with Tomas, owner of The Rookery. Already well-muscled, he took to stable and cleaning tasks easily and became a popular figure. As he grew, his instinct led him to the warrior's life. At seventeen, he took his first mercenary job and at twenty three, founded The Raven. Ever secretive about his name, (Tomas only ever called him 'Boy') his nickname was given him by Hirad as a dig. It stuck.

With the money from fighting, he bought into The Rookery, funding extensions and refurbishments. But despite his pretence at normal life, Sol was always plagued by the nightmare that he could be found and taken as a Protector anytime.

He was the last man ever taken to the calling; and the first to be released.
